Renmark Big 4 Riverfront Holiday Park

Our family has just returned from spending 7 days at the Big 4 Riverfront Holdiay Park in Renmark (South Australia) with our dearest and closest friends (16 children and 12 adults) and what a week we had. The weather was beautiful hovering around, and on one day above 40 degrees there was little to do but swim, water ski and relax.  It was the perfect holiday and everyone had a fantastic time. The childrens ages ranged from 4 to 16 years and the park catered for everyone….lagoon pool (varying depths), spa pool, basketball court, movie room, games room, paddle boats, canoes, go karts, jumping pillow, playground and of course the river. We took our trusty ski boat “Cheetah” and she never missed a beat, going all day everyday with water skiers, knee boarders and the little ones enjoyed biscuit rides. We have booked to go back again next year and we cant wait….Thankyou to the Renmark Big 4 for a memorable holiday….

mmmm….Chicken Sausage Rolls… a big hit with the kids

On Sunday we made Chciken Sausage Rolls and they were such a hit with the kids, neighbours kids, husbands and even the dog that the 40 we made vanished within an hour. So yesterday Miss Millie and I made some more…what fun we had…very easy peasy too.

500grams chicken mince
1 carrot grated
1 egg
sweet chilli sauce
Mix all together (use your hands the mixture combines a lot better - Millie thought this bit was the best bit of the whole porcess). Place onto puff pastry, roll up (2 large rolls per puff pastry sheet) and brush with extra beaten egg then cut into small roills approx 2-3 cm lengths. Bake in oven 200-220 degrees untill golden brown. Yummy.

image
The Chicken Sausage Rolls before the oven.

image
The Final product…yummy.

image
Millie had fun making her dolls some special sausage rolls…the mince needs to go inside the 10 layers of pastry…the dog liked this one.

Pure Baby…beautifully organic.

Purebaby, was established eight years ago by a mother with a passion for the environment. Founder and Creative Director, Mirabai Winford was unable to find quality organic garments for her first child, daughter Samara.  In search of a natural alternative for her baby, Mirabai sourced one of the worlds most pure forms of organic cotton and thus Purebaby was born. In doing so, Mirabai forecast the organic movement long before it became popular on our shores and made exquisitely designed organic clothing for babies a reality for Australian parents. The entire Purebaby collection including clothing, accessories, sleepwear and manchester is simply divine.  Carefully crafted from pure organic cotton, the label draws inspiration from new season trends and nature, offering a range that is far from run-of-the-mill baby wear.

Purebabys vision is to create fashionable baby wear whilst never compromising on social responsibility, and to always use beautiful, pure organic cotton to look after and care for babies. Each Purebaby piece is soft and comfortable - easy to wear, beautifully designed and beautifully organic

Seedling. Planting ideas, growing minds

I was so pleased when I opened up my order from Seedling, it was everything I had expected and more. This New Zealand company produces a wonderful range of hands-on experiences for young people that are accessible, fun, engaging and inspiring. I love the packaging too, it is all recyclable. The fabulous activity sets includes everything from mini collage set, grow your own vege patch,  create an erupting volcano, create your own fashion cap to painting your own russian dolls.

Seedlings philosophy is encouraging simple, homegrown skills that allows a childs mind to grow and develops their creativity.
They also encourage adults to get involved in the activities, building strong relationships and opening the lines of communication.

Flipsy Flopsy Dolls come to Millie Molly Moo

New to the market are these gorgeous Australian designed Flipsy Flopsy Dolls. Flipsy Flopsy Dolls are the perfect addition to every child’s toy collection. Two dolls in one that will stimulate your child’s imagination and provide endless hours of fun. Mother of 5, Libby Hampson was on an expedition to the local mall with Billie, her 2 year old daughter.  As usual, Billie insisted on dragging along with her a flipsy flopsy doll her Nanna Pauline had knitted. Much to Libby’s amazement a group of women who met regularly for coffee enquired as to where she had purchased it.  As there was nothing like this available on the market, Libby decided to design some good old fashioned dolls that would delight modern children of today, thus Flipsy Flopsy Doll Co was born.  After testing the dolls out on Billie and friends, Libby is thrilled to introduce her range and hopes you adore them as much as she does! Isobella becomes Fairy Tinkerbella,  Twin Billie becomes Twin Lily, Farmer Zach becomes Milkmaid Ruby, Dr Jack becomes Nurse Mia.  Just flip’em!

Flipsy Flopsy Dolls have just arrived at Millie Molly Moo. They make gorgeous gifts and are a fantastic price at $39.95

Babyology has just written a review on the dolls and you can check it out at http://babyology.com.au:80/toys/flipsy-flopsy-turning-your-doll-upside-down.html

A day at the beach

Today the sun came out and we decided to head down to the boat shed to look for shells and have a paddle. It has been absolutely freezing here but today was a glorious Autumn day at Cape Bridgewater….Millie rolled up her pants and paddled in the shallows with the neighbours dog, Rosie…what a wonderful day.

The most delicious muffins in the world and hardly any crumbs

Millie and I have just finished making the most delicious muffins in the world and guess what they hardly leave any crumbs, and guess what again they have yoghurt in them (the secret to the no crumbs) and guess what again and again they are delicious and Mr 9 and Mr 7 LOVE them too. We found the recipe on Three Little Trees blog and we just have to share it with you because they are the best and very easy too.

Banana Muffins

2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
cinnamon (optional)

6 tbsp softened butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt (I used fresh passionfruit yogurt which i think made it even better)
1 cup mashed bananas (about 3 bananas)

Combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Cream the butter and sugar using a mixer. Beat in the eggs and rest of wet ingredients. Add the dry ingredients.

Bake at 180 deg C for 25 minutes. Makes 12 muffins.

Fussy boys

My boys, who are 9 and 6 annoy me with their clothing choices. I think its a boy thing, they would rather wear trackies and windcheaters (and it has to have a SURF logo on it)and when I suggest something else, its oh mum we are not wearing that stuff, its horrible. So I am constantly searching for different things for them. I think this is a common complaint from most mums of boys. Well I have finally found some beautiful comfy pyjamas from Little Squirts , that they would stay in all day if they could. They love them.

littleSQUiRTS children’s wear has been created by Melbourne designer, Simone Marshall. Simone has the simple philosophy of making clothes that feel comfortable, look great and fully coordinate. Congrats Simone you get the thumbs up from my boys.

Simone also has a gorgeous girls range too, the Winter English Rose Pyjamas are divine with a beautiful soft pink cotton top and soft cotton rose printed pant with silk sash at the waist.

What a wonderful Easter…

Well another Easter is over and the kids have eaten chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the last few days, we caught up with lots of fantastic friends (most nights) and drank a few (way too many) bottles of chard and everyone is exhausted, BUT gee it was fun. The weather was glorious here in Cape Bridgy and we spent a lot of time at the beach, what a perfect Easter. I also spent some wonderful time at the store as we opened Saturday and Monday and were run off our feet with visitors…thankyou to all those lovely customers who popped into to see us over the Easter break, we loved having you visit our amazing store and we look forward to seeing you again.

The whole of Australia has gone Tea Princess crazy and even OS!

I am just unpacking my second delivery of the gorgeous Tea Princess after almost selling out of the first delivery in a week - WOW. Every little girl simply MUST have a piece of Tea Princess in their wardrobe and we have added some new pieces to the range too - this delivery we have included the gorgeous Pink Crochet Shrug, which goes with absolutely everything and is the perfect piece for the top layer and also the Dusty Pink Tracksuit. My little Millie loves this trackie, she started wearing it when she turned 2 and at three is still trying to wear the same trackie as she loves it so much, even though the pants are looking more three quarter these days - it is ever so comfy, so it looks like mum better invest in a new one.

Tea Princess Winter Range 2009

My most favourite brand ever would have to be Tea Princess. I think Kate and Belle should do it in adults sizes because I would definetely be a stockist and a wearer too. It is every little girls dream wardrobe, I’m sure - well I think it was mine when I was a little girl and I’m sure I’m not on my own there. The new winter range is absolutely stunning, ranging from newborn to size 6. Everything is vintage and frilly and whimsical.

Below is a sneak preview - the range can be pre ordered by emailing us (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or it will be instore in 1 week

Feb Fast 2009

Not sure what planet I was on when I agreed (or was it rail roaded) to join this challenge with one of my good friends (Anita). A glass of wine after a hard working week/day is/was a necessity ...not anymore. FebFast challenges people to sacrifice their alcohol intake during the shortest month of the year and at the same time, raise funds to support organisations working to reduce alcohol and other drug related harms in young people through research, prevention and service delivery activities. Funds raised through FebFast are distributed across Australia through a grants program that takes place in the second half of the year.

If you absolutely must have a drink because of a special occasion like a birthday, Valentine’s Day or a wedding - you can purchase a $25 date stamped Time Out Certificate - like a leave pass for a day - then resume FebFast the next day. CHEATS - I say.

All is well and I must say I am feeling great…..stay tuned.

Mini Mermaid

I am such a huge fan of Mini Mermaid dresses and skirts. Designed by Noosa mum, Shannon Graham they are every so girly and gorgeous and perfect for summer days, and also great for layering in winter. I don’t know why, but they have not been selling in my store. I think its a dress that you have to see on a little girl and then you have to have one of those for your little girl. So I decided to take some pics of my little Millie in a couple of outfits to show you all how gorgeous they are. Mind you it cost me biscuits and chockie cake for her to cooperate.

Soozle Bamboozle Doozle

My wonderful, beautiful, talented and absolutely gorgeous sister (Sue) has just written and illustrated her very OWN children’s book Soozle Bamboozle Doozle & the Magical, Fantastical Cardboard Box. It’s a story about 5 small children (my three children - Harris, Toby and Millie and their two cousins - Noah and Molly) who were bored until Soozle Bamboozle Doozle (their auntie sue) came to visit with her CARDBOARD BOX. The 5 children use their imagination and their dreams to transform the cardboard box into their dreams…a fire truck, a silver spaceship, a hot air balloon and a pirate ship…
She has had a few copies publsihed but is trying to get a a publisher to pick it up and RUN with it. I do so hope a publisher does decide to publish it because it is a fantastic book and I am so so proud of her.

Plan Toys arrive just in time for Christmas

I have just received a shipment of some of the most beautiful wooden toys. They sit perfectly with the range of Bajo and Haba wooden toys that Millie Molly Moo currently stocks. Plan Toys create toys that inspire children’s imagination as well as promote their physical and intellectual development. PlanToys® is the first rubberwood toy manufacturer in the world who successfully uses rubberwood from rubber tree that no longer provides latex as the main material to create toys. Meanwhile, paper used in their packaging is also recyclable which absolutely helps reduce a large amount of garbage to the world and simultaneously maintain the ecological balance.
We only have a small range in store at the moment including the Parking Garage, Pirate Ship, Domino Set and Xylophone but look out for new additions coming soon.

Millie Molly Moo has mooved

Well it feels like forever since I have written anything. Life has been just frantic but we have finally moved to our gorgeous new premises at 137 Percy Street, The building is one of Portland’s oldest commercial buildings and with its three storey the Millie Molly Moo store resembles a giant dolls house.  We have set aside spaces in the new store simply for the purpose of enchanting the customer. There is a beautiful fairy room where everything in this room is glittery and girly, we also have a playroom with a cubby and DVDs so parents can browse in peace and their children will be well entertained. There is a baby space too where mums can change/feed babies and enjoy a cappucinno.I just LOVE it! Last Friday we had our grand opening with face painting from our very own fairy Marina who does the most gorgeous face painting you have ever seen, we had an instore photogrpher and we had heaps of balloons, lollies and giveaways. It was just a great day…

Three Little Trees

I just love this gorgeous new range I have found from Three Little Trees. It is so divine and the colours are so earthy and beautiful.  Another great thing is that they attach little “Native Frangipani” tree seeds to each garment so that you and your little one can plant them together and watch our environment blossom! I can’t wait to see what they do for winter becuase summer is to die for. There’s dresses, skirts, frill knickers, tees and singlets….

BALANCE BIKES

I am getting so frustrated not being able to have the Little Blue Fish Balance Bike available as I have many many enquiries about them. I am not sure when the bike will be available instore, I am hoping October. Little Blue Fish are currently negotiating with a new company to distribute their bikes and until the negotiations are complete us retailers don’t have any Little Blue Fish Balance bikes to sell. We are all waiting patiently…
BUT I am very excited to have been able to stock Australia’s favourite wooden balance store in store from LIVE PLAY CREATE - TIKE. Live Play Create are conscious of leaving the world a great place for our children to grow up and therefore choose to minimise the impact on the environment through the sourcing of sustainably resourced products. For every tike sold a tree is planted through carbon neutral. RRP is $199.95 and they are available in 4 colours.

Tayla-Lu Swimwear

Last year I was on holidays on the Sunshine Coast and every year when we go up there I always drag my family along to the Eumundi markets - I love the markets. I could stay there all day - the smells, sounds and loads of people. It’s fantastic, but the boys get over it in a couple of hours, so I run around at a hundred miles an hour trying to cram as much of it in as I can in the short window of opportunity that I have. This visit I found a gorgeous range of swimwear for girls. I bought a pair for Millie (as I usually do) as I hadn’t seen anything like them before, They were divine. Nerina (owner, mastermind and desinger) and I got chatting and she comes to the Eumundi markets to off load excess seasonal stock each year. I had to have the range so I did an order from the new season collection and it has just arrived instore. There are also gorgoeus accessories such as sarongs and bandanas to go back with the swimwear and a lovely summer dress too. Millie has worn and worn her swimsuit all last summer and all this winter at the pool for swim lessons and I must say most swimwear after a couple of school terms of swimming lessons the “cosie” usually looks a little worse for wear as chlorine takes its toll on the material BUT her Tayla-Lu is in fantastic condition.

Walnut shoes

I first bought a pair of Walnut mary jane shoes for Millie from Lottie and Louis in PortFairy. We both loved them from the minute she put them on. Firstly they were so easy for her to put on herself with the velcro strap, secondly they were comfy and thirdly they washed up beautifully (I just threw them in the washing machine and they came up like brand new) and they were a great price at $29.95. So I thought what a great product I need to stock these shoes, so I did an order, and they have arrived. I have the mary jane style in fuschia pink and chillie red and the cruise style for boys in french navy. The perfect shoe for kinder, playgroup, the beach, out to lunch or just about anywhere.

Gift Fairs

I’m back! A couple of weekends ago I attended the gift trade fairs in Melbourne for four days and how full on was that. I think I have only just caught up and got back to normality after 4 days away - with the shop, children and household chores. The things we mums have to do. I picked up some fantastic new things and I can’t wait to show you them all. A lot aren’t arriving in store until early October and I can hardly wait - lots of toys, gorgeous clothes from Tea Princess and Oobi that are too pretty for words. Meanwhile while I was away we received our first drop of Spring /Summer Big By Fiona Scanlan, which as usual is ever so comfy and easy to wear. We also received a box of gorgeous goodies from Kalamazoo Kids, and we just love the Kidz Kastle available in red gingham and pink gingham. This Thursday I am heading back to Melbourne to visit Magnolia Square, http://www.magnoliasquare.com.au , this is my first time at Magnolia Square but if you ever get the chance please mark it on your calendar. I think it’s a must do for anyone who loves to shop for gorgeous things and the focus of this weekend is Tiny and Small, things for little people. It is on Thursday August 14, 9am - 9pm, Friday August 14, 9am - 9pm and Saturday August 16, 10am - 4pm at the Malvern Town Hall. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Product alert! Cool and funky tights

I have so many customers ask me for girls tights and I can never seem to find any. Customers are always looking for those gorgeously girly pink tights with spots or hearts or stripes. I stock baby legs, which by the way are fantastic, I put them over my little Millie’s plain black leggings - they add extra warmth and they look gorgeous as there are so many colours, and the best bit of all they are easy to access when toileting. But lots of mums don’t want to do that, they want TIGHTS. I think Pumpkin Patch do some and also Ouch, but I don’t stock either of those brands, so I am on the hunt to find a company that does gorgoeus tights for little girls. I have been searching for several months now and still haven’t been able to find any, if anyone can help please let me know. There must be a demand out there for them as every second mum that comes into my store seems to want them, perhaps I should go into designing and manufacturing them myself.

Fun 4 Kids

Well what a week! Well tomorrow is Day 6 of the festival and what a week it has been, I have barely had time to stop and breathe!. I have never seen so many little girls wanting to dress up as gorgoeus little fairies. It has been fantastic and I have been overwhelmed with the squeals of delight from both the little girls (and some boys too) as they tried on a fairy dress, skirt or wings and also the parents too, who took countless photos of their little ones in their beautiful dresses.

small is the new big by seth godin

I have just finished reading the best selling book Small is the New Big by Seth Godin…its a remarkable business book. Seth Godin wrote the Purple Cow, All marketers are liars, The Dip, Free Prize etc. He is an amazing marketer but after reading the last section on how to write blogs and the do’s and don’ts I have come to the conclusion that I should go back and start all over again. I thought people with ecommerce websites like Millie Molly Moo wrote blogs to provide their customers with an insight into their business, useful information, ideas etc about their stores that they couldn’t say on their sites.. Hopefully I’m doing it right..any tips would be greatly appreciated. Some people have given me positive feedback which is great. Perhaps there are some things you would like me to write about. Drop me an email and let me know! and Iif you’re into business books pick up a copy of small is the new big or any of seth’s books ( they are easy to read ) or visit his website at http://www.sethgodin.com

Go Home Junior has arrived!

In February I went to Sydney to a Trade Fair and found these fantastic products by Australian designers Go Home and couldn’t wait to get them in my store. They have been several months coming but are finally here.  They are fun and are designed to promote interactive play by your child themselves, with other children or with adults. The Inflatable Baby Spa is a necessity at only $39.95. You can wash, pamper & relax your baby in the bath, in the shower, at the beach, camping or travelling. I think they are a must for grandparents too! And you should check out the Food Face Meal Sets. They come in two designs - Egg & Pasta and Veg & Fruit. My personal fav is the Veg and Fruit, my kids especially love the brocolli nose and the peas on the spoon. They make great pressies too and at $29.95 a perfect price too!

New Haba Dolls hit Australian shores

Haba has just released new soft dolls to their gorgeous collection - Souri and Paola. Little ones love these dolls - and so do us mums. These soft dolls will quickly gain a place in the hearts of every little doll parent. They have cheerful faces, their clothes are colourful and their body is soft and perfect for cuddling! The best bit about them for us mums is that they are washable at 30 degrees C - so just pop them in the machine and they come out all sparkling clean. My little girl has one that she adores and the only problem I have is getting it dry in time for her to play with it again - she is always trying to take it off the line before its dry. So perhaps she needs TWO!

Ever so bright and colourful

Early this year I happened to be lucky enough to find this gorgeous range of handmade homewares, gifts, toys and decorations from Papoose. All the products are handmade of felt and some include knitting, crocheting and embroidery. They are so very bright and colourful and just beautiful. There is something so unique about felt products, they have so much texture to them and the colours are so bright and happy. Another fantastic thing about Papoose is that all their products are made using fair labour and fair trade.
